2013 NHSCA National Championships
April 3-7, 2013
Virginia Beach, VA

Danbury sophomore Johnny Garcia (160) finished second and Danbury junior Kevin Jack (120) finished fourth.

Garcia earned All-American honors for the second straight year with his second place finish in the sophomore tournament. He won four straight bouts with two pins to earn a spot in the finals but he lost to Ohio's Ben Schram, 5-2.

Garcia is just the fourth wrestler in state history to earn a spot in a NHSCA final and the first since Shelton's Patrick Gillen (215) took second in the Senior Nationals in 2011. Ledyard's T.J. Hepburn is the only Connecticut wrestler to win a NHSCA title when he won at 135 pounds in the Junior Nationals in 2006.

Jack earned All-American honors for the second straight year with his fourth place finish in the junior tournament at 120 pounds. Jack won his first three bouts including a 5-3 OT win over Louisiana’s Cody Hill before getting pinned in the quarterfinals by Colorado’s Mitchell Fiansilver. But Jack won three straight consolation round bouts, including a 2-1 OT decision over Joshua Wimer of Ohio to earn a berth in the consolation final. But Jack lost to Florida’s James Flint, 1-0. Jack went 6-2 in the tournament.
